Google is preparing to launch a medical app that uses facial recognition algorithms to help experts and people find out what’s wrong with their skin.

A brief demonstration of the technology was given at Google’s developer conference.

It involves a design that requires a person to take three photos of their blemishes from different angles and distances, with the option of adding information such as the affected part of the body and how long they have had the problem.

Karen DeSalvo, Google’s chief health officer, said the company intends to introduce a so-called dermatological assistance tool in the European Union before the end of 2021, noting that the medical app is “not available in the U.S.”
