Google Meet adds support for 1080p resolution

April 28, 2023

Google Meet has added 1080p resolution support. The new function is disabled by default, but qualified users may enable it in the app’s settings under the “Video” tab. Furthermore, users can select the new 1080p resolution if they wish, but only in certain circumstances.

Until recently, the highest video resolution available on Google Meet was 720p, which is a little low by today’s standards. Users must check that their cameras support 1080p resolution before sending video. Furthermore, the feature is only accessible via the web, not mobile devices.

The 1080p resolution feature’s most important disadvantage is that it is only available in meetings with two participants. The new Google Meet function is exclusively available to Google Workspace Business, Enterprise, and Education customers, not to individuals with regular Google accounts. Also, using 1080p requires more bandwidth and computing power than lower resolutions. In low-bandwidth conditions, Meet will automatically adapt the resolution.

The functionality is being gradually rolled out and should be accessible to all qualifying customers by May 19.
