Google To Stop Promoting Ads Dismissing The War In Ukraine

March 24, 2022

Google has stated that it will not run ads alongside content exploiting, dismissing, or condoning the ongoing war in Ukraine.

This means that Google is now applying the policy that stops ads from appearing next to violence or denies tragic events to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

“We can confirm that we’re taking additional steps to clarify, and in some instances expand our monetization guidelines as they relate to the war in Ukraine,” Google spokesman Michael Aciman said.

Google has taken several steps in form of sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This includes preventing Russian state-sponsored ads from generating revenue from ads.

Google’s decision was heavily criticized by the Russian government. According to the Russian government, Western media had grossly misreported its activities in Ukraine.

Apart from Google, other tech companies including Apple, Meta, PayPal, and others have sanctioned Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
