April 5, 2022

Car rental company Hertz Global Holdings has announced plans to buy up to 65,000 electric vehicles from Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar over a five-year period.

Hertz announced that Polestar vehicles will be available in Europe this spring and later in North America and Australia in 2022. Hertz will begin purchasing Polestar electric vehicles with the Polestar 2 sedan.

According to Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, the Hertz partnership “will bring the amazing experience of driving an electric car to a wider audience, satisfying a broad variety of our mutual customers’ short- and longer-term mobility requirements.”

The company launched its Green Collection of rental cars in September 2006, and since then the company has focused on cars that are considered environmentally friendly.

In October 2021, Hertz announced it would buy 100,000 electric cars from Tesla with a particular interest in the company’s Model 3.

The Hertz car rental fleet consists of a variety of vehicle manufacturers including BYD, Mercedes, Infiniti, Cadillac, Land Rover, BMW, Porsche, Jaguar, Mazda, Volvo, Toyota, Jeep and Lincoln.
