HSBC Introduces ‘Zoom-free Fridays’ To Help Combat Fatigue

May 11, 2021

Online banking organization HSBC plans to implement Zoom-free Fridays for some of its staff to tackle pandemic fatigue, following similar moves by other leading banks.

Companies have been forced to look more closely at working practices during the pandemic where most people have been working from home due to lockdown restrictions.

Citigroup’s new CEO Jane Fraser has similarly introduced Zoom-free Fridays and set a company-wide holiday at the end of May to give employees a much-needed reset.

HSBC has also taken steps to ease the load on its junior investment bankers after a busy year by hiring more junior workers to lessen the workload while increasing the pay of its current staff.

HSBC’s move comes as it plans to reduce office space by 40%, with a more permanent shift to remote work.
