Insider Intelligence predicts users and revenue drop for Twitter

December 14, 2022

According to Insider Intelligence, more than 30 million users are expected to leave Twitter over the next two years as concerns grow about technical issues and the proliferation of offensive content following Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover.

According to this forecast, Musk’s activities as Twitter CEO, which have resulted in celebrities leaving the platform and shunning by high-profile advertisers, will cause “an exodus of users next year and beyond,” with 32.7 million of Twitter’s estimated 368.4 million monthly active users worldwide logging off by 2024, accounting for nearly 9% of the total.

“Users will begin to leave the platform next year as they become frustrated with technical issues and the proliferation of hateful or other unsavory content,” said Insider Intelligence principal analyst Jasmine Enberg.

Insider Intelligence also predicts that Twitter will lose more users in the United States, its largest market, than in any other country, with 8.2 million fewer users over the next two years. As Twitter becomes “more unstable, and less pleasant,” US user numbers are expected to fall to 50.5 million by the end of 2024, the lowest level since 2014.

It also stated that Twitter’s revenue growth will be flat for the next two years, as revenue and staffing losses have made it more difficult for Musk to ship new products to increase platform usage and engagement.
