Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger warned that the global chip shortage could get worse and last “a year or two.”
This is due to the high demand for devices, the COVID-19 pandemic and poor relations between the United States and China.
Gelsinger said it will get worse in the “second half of this year” and it will take some time for supplies to return to normal.
Gelsinger said that it would take time, but indicated that building chip factories would be crucial if things were to return to normal and that there is a need to “normalize” relationships with China.
According to Gelsinger, Intel will announce new semiconductor factories in the U.S. and Europe by the end of 2021.
As for chip development, Intel has just announced a 2025 roadmap to produce even smaller and more powerful chips.
