Disabling Internet Explorer on the desktop after more than 25 years will likely come with complications, as some of its elements will continue to work from the inside with the new Chrome-based Edge as a compatibility mode.

Emails from Outlook use the browser view on Edge and open in Internet Explorer because Outlook uses MIME encapsulation of aggregate HTML documents (MHTML).

MHTML is a technique that embodies HTML and any image resources in a single file.

Because of this, it becomes difficult to view Outlook messages on a modern browser like Edge.

In situations where users configure the file associations in Windows 10 to support Outlook’s MHTML, emails will open with the Edge browser, but this will only be displayed as text and without active links.
