In a statement released Friday, one of the world’s largest law firms, Campbell Conroy & O’Neil, P.C., announced a major data breach that occurred after a ransomware attack on February 27.
The investigation found that the hackers gained access to a database that contains personal information such as names, dates of birth, driver’s license/government identification numbers, financial account information, passport numbers, payment information and social security numbers.
The law firm released a statement saying it discovered unusual activity on February 27 and soon realized it had been hit by a ransomware attack.
The company contacted the FBI and cybersecurity companies for help.
For anyone affected by the data breach, the firm will be offering 24 months of free credit monitoring, fraud counselling and identity theft recovery.
