To encourage global private investment in low-carbon technologies, more than 40 world leaders will join forces to accelerate the adoption of clean technologies by enforcing global standards and policies.
The move will initially target five high-carbon sectors, including steel, road transport, agriculture, hydrogen and electricity. This was discussed at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow.
The plan was launched by the U.K. PM Boris Johnson along with representatives from the U.S., India, the EU and China.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “By making clean technology the most affordable, accessible and attractive choice, the default go-to in what are currently the most polluting sectors, we can cut emissions right around the world. The Glasgow Breakthroughs will turbocharge this forward so that by 2030 clean technologies can be enjoyed everywhere, not only reducing emissions but also creating more jobs and greater prosperity.”
Other topics include the Green Grids Initiative, AIM4C, Breakthrough Energy Catalyst and the First Movers Coalition.
