Lethbridge Launches World’s First Quantum Computing Super Hub

June 23, 2025 A new quantum computing super hub has opened in Lethbridge, Alberta, marking a global first in integrating quantum and classical computing technologies.

Developed by SuperQ Quantum Computing, the platform combines classical CPUs and GPUs with quantum components to optimize problem-solving across various industries. Muhammad Khan, founder and CEO of SuperQ, described the system as leveraging “a combination of classical and quantum hardware” to determine the most efficient computational approach.

Renae Barlow, vice-president of entrepreneurship and innovation at Economic Development Lethbridge, highlighted the hub’s potential impact: “Having this type of access for our southern Alberta companies and industries puts us ahead. We’re now leading as the only quantum hub.”

The hub is expected to benefit sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and logistics, which generate substantial data requiring advanced processing capabilities. Eyren Uggenti, leading the initiative, noted that students from the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Polytechnic will have opportunities to engage with the technology, enhancing research and education in the region.

SuperQ plans to expand the super hub model internationally, with the next installation anticipated in the United Arab Emirates.
