Two of the leading U.S. phone companies, AT&T and Verizon, have agreed to delay the roll-out of 5G services.
In a statement by an AT&T spokesperson, they confirmed the delay, adding that they know “aviation safety and 5G can co-exist and we are confident further collaboration and technical assessment will allay any issues.”
<meta charset=”utf-8″>There has been an ongoing battle between the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) over the rollout of 5G wireless. According to plane makers and the FAA, 5G wireless signals have the potential to disrupt sensitive aircraft electronics and thus disrupt flights.
In a statement thanking the phone companies for their move to delay the rollout, the FAA explained, “We look forward to using the additional time and space to reduce flight disruptions associated with this 5G deployment.”
