McDonald’s is recycling old appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers and IT equipment.

McDonald’s is achieving this by using them to create the building cladding for its new restaurant in Market Drayton, England.

Described as “the UK’s first net-zero carbon restaurant,” the move will be extended to other restaurants as the company works to achieve net-zero emissions.

The Market Drayton McDonald’s will use renewable energy sources such as wind turbines and solar panels.

Some of the ways in which the old equipment is being used include creating drive-thru lanes made from recycled tires, using curbs made from recycled plastic bottles.

The impact of this decision has been enormous with the production of less carbon dioxide, the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 25 kg per curb and the diversion of more than 200,000 plastic bottles from landfills.
