Mercedes-Benz to use ChatGPT to streamline production

July 21, 2023

Mercedes-Benz Group AG is piloting the use of ChatGPT to streamline its production process, help to identify and analyze errors in the manufacturing process, as well as to provide employees with a round-the-clock digital contact person.

Mercedes-Benz is currently piloting ChatGPT at its Sindelfingen plant in Germany. The pilot involves integrating intelligent tools into the MO360 digital production ecosystem, which was initially introduced in 2020. If the pilot proves successful, the automaker intends to implement ChatGPT at its other production sites worldwide.

ChatGPT will also be used to identify and analyze errors in the manufacturing process quickly and efficiently to improve quality and reduce costs. Mercedes-Benz adds that ChatGPT will provide employees with real-time information about the production process and provide employees with a round-the-clock digital contact person.

Mercedes-Benz guarantees data protection by collaborating with Microsoft’s Azure AI, which combines large-scale generative AI models with robust security and privacy features. The company retains control over its IT processes, ensuring employee voice inputs remain anonymous and production data remains within the MO360 Data Platform.
