Mercedes to add ChatGPT to MBUX infotainment system

June 19, 2023

Mercedes-Benz is adding OpenAI’s conversational AI agent ChatGPT to its MBUX infotainment system in the United States. The feature will be available as a beta program starting on June 16, 2023.

Mercedes says that ChatGPT will enable users to have more natural and comprehensive conversations with their cars. For example, users will be able to ask ChatGPT for details about their destination, to suggest a new dinner recipe, or to answer a complex question.

According to Mercedes-Benz, its beta program will reach a large number of people, with over 900,000 automobiles participating across the United States. To take part, consumers just simply enable the function by stating, “Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta program.” ChatGPT will receive access to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud as a result of this agreement, allowing it to obtain and analyze pertinent data.

Mercedes also assures that the voice command data gathered would be anonymized despite that privacy worries have been raised.
