According to the Wall Street Journal, Meta has seen a significant loss of its AI researchers, as well as criticism for its poor progress in AI development, indicating a setback for Meta’s aspirations.
The departure of AI experts including Yann LeCun, an AI “godfather” whom Zuckerberg hired in 2013 to oversee Meta’s attempts to develop in AI, has also cast doubt on the company’s capacity to compete with industry leaders such as OpenAI. To top it all off, the White House excluded the Meta from their summit of “companies at the forefront of AI innovation.”
Even after workers are asking Meta to take the new approach, Zuckeberg said the business is attempting to remedy prior blunders that diverted attention away from generative AI. This aligns with Meta’s strategy change towards focusing on the metaverse, a virtual reality-based idea.
During a recent town hall meeting in June, Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, openly admitted the company’s faults in the past. He did, however, highlight that Meta is now completely devoted to furthering AI, claiming that great achievements had been made in the last year.
