Meta launches Meta Verified in U.S.

March 20, 2023

Meta has launched its subscription service in the United States, allowing Facebook and Instagram users to pay for verification in the same way that Twitter does.

The Meta Verified service will cost $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 per month on Apple’s iOS and Google-owned Android after users verify their accounts with a government ID, Meta said in a statement.

It provides a verified badge that uses a government ID verification process to securely establish the account’s authenticity. It also provides proactive account protection by preventing impersonation through proactive account monitoring and secures the account with required two-factor authentication. Exclusive stickers on Facebook and Instagram Stories, as well as Facebook Reels, and direct account support are also available.

Aside from the monthly fee, users must be at least 18 years old. Before being approved for a Meta Verified subscription, users must also complete the verification process and provide a government-issued photo ID. It is also necessary to use two-factor authentication. Unless they are willing to go through the verification process again, Meta Verified subscribers will be unable to change their profile name, photo, username, or date of birth.

To begin using Meta Verified, go to the settings section of Instagram or Facebook and then click “Accounts Center.” If the account has access to the subscription service, “Meta Verified available” will show under the name and profile picture. Users can then select their preferred payment method and complete the verification process.
