Meta predicts metaverse as the future of work

December 16, 2022

Meta has made four predictions for the Future of Work: inclusion is essential for remote work, more businesses are investing in VR, interoperability for better collaboration, and that Metaverse sceptics will miss out, as well as trends shaping the future of hybrid working and work in the metaverse, and how they’ll redefine inclusion in the workplace.

According to a survey of 2,000 employees and 400 leaders in the United States and the United Kingdom, 83% of employees are happy when they are included at work, and video meetings are not helping.

According to Meta, only 19% of employees who responded to its survey believe video makes them feel more present in meetings, and only 15% believe it leads to greater collaboration with colleagues.

Sixty-nine percent of employee respondents want meetings to be more immersive and engaging, while 66% believe the metaverse will help replicate the sense of togetherness that comes from being in the office, and 68% believe organisations that create true presence virtually will be able to create a sense of belonging in an increasingly hybrid world of work.

Employees are enthralled by the metaverse. 76% of employees said they wanted to incorporate virtual worlds into their work lives to bridge cultural gaps left by remote work.

While 66% said the metaverse could replicate the sense of togetherness that employees feel at work. Employers cited the metaverse’s top benefits as assisting teams in engaging, connecting, and collaborating (54%), creating a sense of belonging among distributed teams (54%), and improving work-life balance and reducing presenteeism (53%).
