Microsoft has acknowledged that some users are still experiencing problems with recent operating system (OS) updates and certain antimalware and antivirus software.
One issue involved Trellix’s endpoint security software, which prevented some users from opening Microsoft or third-party software, such as Outlook and other Office programs. The problem was fixed by Trellix issuing an update to its own product.
Another issue affected users who installed the KB5027231 security update and had Malwarebytes’ Exploit Protection module enabled. This prevented Google Chrome from loading, but it could still be seen in the Windows Task Manager. Malwarebytes released a fix for this issue less than a week after it was reported.
In addition, Microsoft has also fixed a problem that caused the Start Menu, Windows search, and Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications to not work properly or not always open. The cause of this issue is unclear, but Microsoft has said that it may be related to a damaged registry key or data. The company has released a fix for this issue in the Windows KB5027303 update.
Microsoft has advised users who are experiencing problems with recent OS updates or antimalware software to uninstall the update or disable the software, respectively. In some cases, users may also need to roll back their system to a previous point in time. Microsoft has also said that it is working on a permanent fix for the Start Menu, Windows search, and UWP application issues.
