Microsoft announced the introduction of end-to-end encryption for one-to-one Teams calls. By default, the feature won’t be available to all users within a tenant.

Once the update is available, administrators can enable and control it for their respective organizations. In situations where the feature is configured and enabled for selected users, the selected users will still need to enable it in the team settings.

While IT will be responsible for activating this function, the department will also be responsible for deactivating the function if necessary.

To address issues with the new feature, Microsoft explained that when using end-to-end encryption for Teams one-to-one calls, some features will not be available, such as captioning and transcription, and adding participants to make a call or group call.

If one of the unavailable features is required, users must turn it off. Although video and voice data are protected in real-time by end-to-end encryption, chat or file sharing is not secured.
