Microsoft has announced plans to introduce a new feature that will allow Teams consumer and enterprise users to chat between the two platforms.
Microsoft’s external federation for chats between Teams consumers and Teams enterprise will be launched by mid-January. This capability will be for Teams on the web, desktop, and mobile
“With this update Teams, users in your organization will be able to start a 1:1 or a group chat with Teams users who are using their personal accounts and vice-versa,” Microsoft’s notification explains.
People can invite any Teams user to chat with an email address or phone number that must comply with their organization’s rules.
Microsoft’s notification noted that administrators will be able to enable or disable the feature at both the tenant and single-user levels. Settings for this will be launched by default using the feature.
Administrators can unsubscribe from the Teams Admin portal under the External Access section, or they can unsubscribe using PowerShell commands to opt-out all users.
