Microsoft Releases Pricing, Details for Office 2021

October 5, 2021

Microsoft annouced last Friday that the one-time purchase edition of Office will be available today, Tuesday, October 5, the same day that Windows 11 will officially launch.

Office Home and Student 2021 is installed with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Microsoft Teams for Windows or macOS and costs $150. Office Home and Business 2021 has all programs in the Home and Student version, but adds Outlook for Windows or macOS and costs $150. Both versions of Office 2021 are sold by the tech giant’s website as well as other retailers worldwide.

Microsoft sells Office in two different variants. Office 2021 is the one-time purchase version that gives you an open-ended license, but does not include a free upgrade to each new version. This means that if you purchased Office 2019 and want to upgrade to Office 2021, you will have to spend money on a new license. Microsoft 365 is the subscription-based version of Office that signs you up for an annual subscription, but ensures that you have the latest features after launch.

To attract users to Office 2021, Microsoft is including most of the programs and features normally available for Microsoft 365, such as Microsoft Teams.
