Microsoft’s Digital Transformation Group Head Leaves

April 5, 2022

Microsoft Executive Vice President Scott Guthrie has announced the departure of Digital Transformation Group James Phillips.

The email confirming Phillips’ departure said the executive was leaving for an unspecified “external opportunity.”

Microsoft Digital Transformation Group focuses on Microsoft’s Cloud and AI businesses. The group includes Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Azure AI Platform, Azure Data Platform, Azure IoT Platform and the growing family of Microsoft Cloud for Industry solutions.

Philips joined Microsoft in 2012 as a strategic advisor to Satya Nadella, who was then president of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise Division. In March 2021, Philips was appointed head of the new Digital Transformation Group.

Guthrie said Charles Lamanna will continue to lead the Business Applications & Platform organization, Eric Boyd will continue to lead the AI platform organization and Rohan Kumar will continue to lead the Azure Data organization.

The three people will join Guthrie’s C + AI leadership team and report directly to him.
