Musk says he’ll resign as Twitter CEO when he finds a successor

December 22, 2022

Elon Musk said he would resign as CEO of Twitter once he found a replacement, in response to a poll that showed users wanted him to step down. He adds that he will continue to lead the software and servers teams after his replacement is found.

He had previously promised to follow the outcome of a Twitter poll in which 57.5% of users voted “yes” to him leaving the role. According to the poll results released on Monday, 10 million votes, supported Musk stepping down just weeks after acquiring the company for $44 billion.

In a tweet, Musk said he would resign “as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job!” He added that following his resignation as CEO, Musk would “run the software & servers teams” at Twitter, indicating he may continue to exercise significant influence on the company’s decision-making.

Musk has used Twitter polls to make other decisions on the platform, including the reinstatement of former US President Donald Trump’s account and the accounts of other suspended users.

Earlier this week, he mocked a report that he was looking for someone to take over as CEO of Twitter, tweeting that “no one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive.”
