NCSC Warns U.K. To Prepare For Russian Cyberattacks

January 31, 2022

The U.K.’s National Cybersecurity Centre (NCSC) has urged organizations in the region to prepare for state-sponsored attacks from Russia.

NCSC recommendations for protecting organizations from imminent attacks include patching systems, improving access controls and enabling multi-factor authentication, implementing an effective incident response plan, and verifying that backups and restore mechanisms are working.

Others include ensuring that online defenses are working as expected and keeping up with the latest threat and mitigation information.

The NCSC also updated its cybersecurity guidelines, which included basic advice and advanced suggestions on the types of measures that can be taken against modern cyberattacks.

The NCSC’s warning comes amid growing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, which have led to a number of Ukrainian organizations falling victim to cyber-attacks.

Given that the next targets will be European countries and the United States, organizations within these regions must draw up a plan in advance.
