Mozilla has included the new Query Parameter Stripping feature in the latest Firefox 102 update. The feature automatically removes various query parameters that are used to track URLs when users open them either by clicking a link or simply by pasting the URL into the address bar.
Once enabled, Mozilla Firefox removes various tracking parameters from URLs when users click on links or insert a URL into the address bar.
The new Query Parameter Stripping feature is part of Firefox’s Enhanced Tracking Protection. To enable Query Parameter Stripping, users are advised to go to Firefox Settings, click Privacy & Security, and then change ‘Enhanced Tracking Protection” to ‘Strict.”
It is important to note that these tracking parameters are not removed in Private Mode even when Strict mode is activated.
To enable the feature in Private Mode, users should enter ‘about:config” in the address bar, search for “strip” and set the ‘privacy.query__stripping.enabled.pbmode’ option to “true.”
Setting Enhanced Tracking Protection to Strict may cause problems when using some websites. Users facing this problem are advised to reset it to Standard or the Custom setting.
