NVIDIA investigates melting adapter cables

November 17, 2022

NVIDIA is looking into reports that one of its latest cards, the NVIDIA RTX 4090 Founders Edition, a Lovelace flagship model, has a melted adapter cable.

According to a Reddit user who used the graphics card in a case with the side panel removed for extra breathing room and ensured that the connection between PSU and GPU was solid and properly seated, the graphics card, which retails for £1,699, was melting the adapter supplied in the box.

The affected user said, “After the damage, I made a Reddit post, out of frustration – and later, NVIDIA contacted me personally. The only thing they did was ask me to [return the card].”

There are now 26 reports of cable melting RTX 4090 incidents on Reddit, which is becoming an uncomfortably high number. It appears that it is past time for NVIDIA to put on its skates and finally figure out what the gremlin in the works is.

NVIDIA has yet to issue an official statement, but it has asked affected users to return the card and has informed them that it is investigating.
