NVIDIA uses AI to solve climate change and protein folding

September 13, 2023

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is using generative AI to solve real-world problems like dissolving plastics, reducing carbon emissions, and more. He believes that AI can be used to address environmental issues such as reducing plastic waste in the oceans, capturing carbon emissions, and finding new solutions to tackle these challenges.

Huang also discussed the potential of AI to help with protein folding, which is a complex process that is essential for understanding how proteins work. He believes that AI can be used to accelerate protein folding research and develop new drugs and treatments for diseases.

NVIDIA has already made significant investments in AI for drug discovery. In March, the company launched BioNeMo Cloud, a set of generative AI cloud services that make it easier for researchers to develop new drugs and treatments. BioNeMo Cloud includes AlphaFold2 by DeepMind, DiffDock by MIT, ESMFold and ESM2 by Meta, MoFlow by Cornell University and ProtGPT-2.

In the process of forging a partnership with Recursion and investments in drug discovery, BioNeMo Cloud has also accelerated drug discovery for pharmaceutical companies like Amgen and startups such as Evozyne and Insilico Medicine.

NVIDIA is also working on a number of other AI projects related to climate change and protein folding. For example, the company is developing AI-powered tools to help farmers adapt to climate change and to develop new biofuels.
