A new Pew Research Center study has found that most Americans have yet to try ChatGPT. The study, which surveyed 5,057 adults in the United States, found that only 18% of respondents had ever used ChatGPT.
This research, carried out between July 17 and July 23, gathered insights from 5,057 participants, shedding light on the utilization of ChatGPT within the United States. It found that 24% of those familiar with ChatGPT had actually engaged with the technology, a figure accounting for just 18% of the entire adult population in the U.S.
The study found that younger adults were more likely than older adults to have used ChatGPT. Twenty-four percent of adults ages 18-29 had used ChatGPT, compared to just 5% of adults ages 65 and older.
The study also found that adults with more education were more likely to have used ChatGPT. Thirty-two percent of adults with a college degree or more had used ChatGPT, compared to 16% of adults with a high school diploma or less.
The study found that the most common use for ChatGPT was for entertainment. One in five adults who had heard of ChatGPT reported using it for entertainment. Other uses for ChatGPT included learning something (19%) and work (16%).
