OpenAI introduces ChatGPT iOS app

May 19, 2023

OpenAI has announced that a free version of its ChatGPT application is now available for iPhones and iPads in a bid to simplify access to the chatbot on mobile devices while also discouraging rivals and imposters.

The ChatGPT for iOS app, which is presently exclusively available in the United States on Apple’s App Store, provides a comparable experience to its web version, with the addition of speech input functionality via Whisper, OpenAI’s open-source speech-recognition technology. Users may now orally articulate their inquiries to the bot, albeit the bot will only react in textual form.

Furthermore, the app allows users to synchronize text-based chats across numerous devices, increasing ease and continuity. Subscribers to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus, which needs a paid membership, will also get access to GPT-4, an improved version of the chatbot on the app.

The app will first be available in the United States but will progressively expand to other nations in the following weeks, as well as to Android users in the future.
