December 3, 2021

Planned Parenthood recently confirmed that the company was the victim of a ransomware attack between October 9 and 17.

The health data of around 400,000 customers was compromised during the intrusion.

The company noted that it noticed suspicious activity on its network on October 17 and immediately took some decisive action, including taking its systems offline, contacting law enforcement and lastly reaching out to a third-party cybersecurity company.

The investigation confirmed that there was indeed a burglary between October 9 and 17. The Investigation also confirmed data theft.

Planned Parenthood provides vital reproductive health care, sex education and information to people around the world. The company urged those whose data was stolen to check statements from health insurers, as it will not provide identity services for victims.

The company will also employ a cybersecurity firm to investigate the issue and find ways to ensure that the company’s systems and data are better protected.
