People interested in Apple’s 128GB iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will not be able to enjoy the ProRes 4K video feature.
Support for Apple’s ProRes video compression format, which allows 4k video to be recorded at 30 frames per second, is limited to models with a storage capacity of 256GB or more.
The 128GB version can only record ProRes at 30fps at a reduced resolution of 1080p. It is widely believed that the 128GB option does not provide the data transfer speed required to keep pace with 4K video creation.
Other results showed that the Cinematic Mode feature, which Apple highlighted at the company’s launch on Tuesday, is limited to 1080p on all models of the iPhone.
ProRes will not be included in the iPhone 13 Pro at launch, instead rolling out in an update that to be releasedlater this fall.
Besides ProRes, the iPhone 13 Pro features a number of hardware and software improvements such as optical image stabilization on the new 3x telephoto lens, a new ultra-wide module with macro functionality, and other features.
