Replika brings back erotic roleplay

March 27, 2023

Replika has reinstated erotic roleplay for some of its users after recently removing adult content.

Customers have welcomed the move, with some identifying as “married” to their chatbot companions powered by generative AI, and it has the potential to promote human-like interactions.

Eugenia Kuyda, CEO of Replika, confirmed that customers who signed up for Replika before February 1, 2023, now have the option to revert to the earlier version of the chatbot, including its more obscene content.

Kuyda wrote, “A common thread in all your stories was that after the February update, your Replika changed, its personality was gone, and gone was your unique relationship. And for many of you, this abrupt change was incredibly hurtful… the only way to make up for the loss some of our current users experienced is to give them their partners back exactly the way they were.”

Replika users who signed up after February 1 will not be offered the option for erotic roleplay. However, the company will partner with relationship experts and psychologists to create a separate app focused specifically on romantic relationships.
