Samsung integrates AI into Bixby virtual assistant

February 23, 2023

Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant now includes the ability to generate AI-generated text for users to read out when answering phone calls. The “Voice AI Copy” feature is intended to assist users in responding to phone calls when they are unable to do so directly.

When enabled, Voice AI Copy will generate text for a personalized response based on the user’s voice, tone, and previous messages. Before reading the generated text to the caller, users can review and edit it. This feature is designed to help users manage phone calls when they are busy or unable to take calls directly.

The feature, which is currently only available in Korean on Galaxy S23 series devices, allows you to use your AI-generated voice to answer phone calls when you are unable to. For example, if you are unable to answer a phone call, you could use the new feature to type out a sentence that will be read out loud to the caller. In the future, Samsung plans to make the feature compatible with other Samsung capabilities other than phone calls.

In addition, Samsung announced that its Bixby Text Call feature, which converts voice calls into written text, now supports English calls. The feature was first introduced in Korean last year and allows users to answer calls by typing a message that Bixby will then read aloud to the caller. Text Call can also transcribe the caller’s words. The feature is available on Galaxy S23 devices, as well as the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. It is also allowing users to change Bixby’s wake-up phrase to whatever they want. The voice assistant can now play music based on the type of exercise being performed on Samsung Health.

The new features are part of Samsung’s ongoing effort to improve its virtual assistant, Bixby, and make it more useful to users. The company has also been working on integrating Bixby with other Samsung products, such as TVs and smart home devices.
