Tony McCoy has sued Samsung on the basis that the company sold its Samsung Chromebook Plus 2-in-1 device even though it was allegedly aware of a defect that could lead to a breakage of the displays.
According to the complaint filed, the hinges holding the display and connecting it to the chassis are defective as they detach from their fixing points after several uses.
As soon as a defect appears when opening or closing the Chromebook, the display breaks and the underlying display splits or breaks, causing colour and pixel problems.
The complaint goes on to note that while Samsung accuses customers of negligence in all cases, the company still uses the same defective spare part to repair the screens of customers affected by the problem.
McCoy is seeking financial relief and an injunction requiring Samsung to immediately disclose and correct the hinge error.
