New York Thieves Use Apple Watch To Track And Steal $500k

A gang of Hudson Valley-based New York thieves used an Apple Watch to track down and steal $500,000 in cash from a drug runner, the New York Post reported.

According to the published report, the gang’s leader, Darren Lindsay, bought an Apple Watch and linked it to his AT&T account, then hid the device under the bumper of a car belonging to a drug runner suspected of possessing a large amount of cash.

The group then used the Apple Watch to track the drug runner to a hotel parking lot in Connecticut.

While they were unable to find cash after breaking into the car, the gang allegedly attacked the drug runner, swiping their belongings and hotel key card with which they used to gain access to the room, and take the bag containing $500,000 in cash.

To bring clarity to the case in court, prosecutors argued that all the information provided was backed up by detailed cellphone data from Lindsay’s Apple Watch and the defendants’ smartphones.
