Trump Asks Judge to Force Twitter to Restart His Account

In a lawsuit filed against Twitter in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, former President Donald Trump asked a federal judge to restore his account, which the company deleted in January.

According to Trump’s lawyers, Twitter wields “a degree of power and control over political discourse in this country that is immeasurable, historically unprecedented, and profoundly dangerous to open democratic debate,”.

Notably, Twitter claimed in January, when it removed the account, that Trump had violated its rules by “glorifying violence,” and as the company made clear, Trump’s tweets are likely to encourage people to repeat January’s protests in the capital.

Trump further argued in the lawsuit that the company censored him during his term, calling some of his tweets “misleading information” but allowing the Taliban to regularly tweet about their military victories in Afghanistan.
