Australia Building Data Tools to Address Labor Market Needs

The Australian federal government is building a new AU $10 million data tool that it hopes to use in addressing issues such as workforce shortages, digital technological changes and increased flexible working arrangements.

The data tool will therefore provide real-time information on Australia’s regional and local workforce, skills and labor market. Aside from this, the country will also be setting aside another AU$20 million over the next four years in various areas, including fast tracking of active skill shortages, waiving fees and rapid assessments for migrants in the country, especially those who still need a skills assessment.

Other issues the AU $20 million will address include providing free employability assessments and support to migrants below their qualifications, additional funding for industry-focused short courses, and implementing better approaches to completing them at a faster pace.
