Meta’s AI chief slams ChatGPT

Yann LeCun, Meta’s chief AI scientist, is unimpressed with ChatGPT, the wildly popular artificial intelligence technology that makes headlines on a daily basis. LeCun slammed ChatGPT, calling it “basic” and implying that it only appears sophisticated.

LeCun noted that Chat GPT isn’t very advanced. He cited Meta, Google, and a slew of other startups that are making strides in this field, and he claims that they are advancing the technology in ways that Open AI simply isn’t. LeCun also mentioned how ChatGPT and the program on which it is based, OpenAI’s GPT-3, are made up of multiple pieces of technology developed over many years by many parties.

Another thing he mentioned was that Google literally built a fundamental aspect of Chat GPT, namely the neural nets known as transformers. Many companies and research labs have built data-driven AI systems in the past, according to LeCun. He believes the notion that OpenAI is unique in its field is incorrect.
