Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has warned employees who don’t want to return to the office that it’s “not going to work out for you.”
Jassy made the comments during a meeting with employees earlier this month. He said that the company’s decision to require employees to return to the office was a “judgment call” and that employees can leave if they don’t want to comply.
“It’s not right for all of our teammates to be in three days a week and for people to refuse to do so,” Jassy said. Jassy said he considers the return-to-office directive as a strategic choice. He acknowledged it as a “judgment call,” and while recognizing employees’ reservations, he emphasized that it was a critical step to solidify collaboration and innovation.
Amazon has been cracking down on employees who refuse to return to the office. In July, the company reportedly sent warnings to workers about their in-person attendance.
The company has also been forcing some employees to “voluntarily resign” if they don’t relocate to the in-person hubs where their teams work.
