Amazon cracks down on workers tapping in in for coffee

Amazon is intensifying its crackdown on employees who circumvent its return-to-office requirements. Reports from Business Insider indicate that some workers have been signing in just to access on-site coffee machines, thereby appearing present on the register without actually working in the office. In response, Amazon is now tracking the actual hours employees spend at the office rather than just monitoring sign-ins and sign-outs.

CEO Andy Jassy previously emphasized that the return-to-office mandate is crucial for the company’s long-term success. Employees who fail to comply with the three-day-per-week office requirement may face limited career progression opportunities. Despite the strict enforcement, many workers have expressed their dissatisfaction through internal communications and online platforms. An Amazon spokesperson reiterated the company’s stance, noting that in-office work has led to increased energy, connection, and collaboration among employees, ultimately benefiting the business and its culture.
