Apple Allegedly Testing Face ID That Works With Masks

Apple is testing a new and improved Face ID array that works with masks, according to leaks by Jon Prosser.

Prosser was able to see images and videos of about 75 prototype rigs and create a composite rendering of the alleged test device, which shows a Face ID array on an iPhone 12 with some significant changes.

According to a report by Front Page Tech, the array tested is arranged differently from the current Face ID array and appears slimmer.

Instead of finished iPhone models, test devices are used to minimize leaks and other problems. iPhone 12 fits into the test rig and thus bypasses the internal Face ID system.

Tests are carried out on a large scale with or without a mask or glasses. In addition, testers are asked to test in different environments with different styles of glasses or masks.

Prosser’s sources, however, were confident that the test rig used “iPhone 13” Face ID technology.

A Face ID system that can work with masks would be a great feature for the “iPhone 13.” Apple recently updated the Apple Watch to unlock the iPhone when a mask is recognized as a stopgap for different users.
