Better.com CEO Apologizes After Firing Employees Via Zoom

Vishal Garg, the CEO of Better.com, has publicly apologized for his poor and insensitive handling of layoffs at the mortgage company after a video of him firing 900 people last week went viral and drew scathing criticism on social media.

Garg said he had “blundered the execution” of communicating the layoffs.

“I realize that the way I communicated this news made a difficult situation worse,” Garg said in a letter released Tuesday.

The CEO reasoned that market, performance and productivity as factors leading to the decision to lay off employees in the US and India.

Better.com was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in New York. Through its online platform, Better.com offers mortgage and insurance products to homeowners.
