Clubhouse iOS Downloads Hit Steep Decline In April

Clubhouse – a social media app that made headlines a few months ago for attracting celebrities to its platform – appears to have reached a plateau, with downloads down sharply in April compared with previous months.

Clubhouse surpassed 2 million downloads in January 2021, peaking at 9.5 million downloads in February, while the number of new downloads fell to 2.7 million in March.

Clubhouse recorded just 922,000 downloads in April, a pretty sharp drop from its February peak.

There are a number of theories as to why the audio-only app seems to have peaked in its short lifespan. One theory is that the severe mobility restrictions of the pandemic limited people’s willingness to talk, which is why downloads of the app peaked.

Now that vaccination rates have soared in the U.S. and people have begun to leave their homes again, clubhouse may just be a pandemic-era fad.

Rivals such as Facebook, Twitter, and Spotify have also jumped on the social audio bandwagon to poach users.

In the meantime, Clubhouse is testing an Android version of the app to make the platform accessible to non-iOS users.
