Fable Studio’s new AI tool generates short episodes of “South Park”

Showrunner AI, a new tool from Fable Studio, can generate short episodes of “South Park” from a single prompt.

The press demos of Showrunner AI demonstrated its capacity to generate a passable “South Park” episode with minimal assistance. Fable Studio’s designers showed the app’s potential by creating an episode about an AI attempting to take over the show from its original producers, Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Fable Studio, creators of Showrunner AI, clarify that they don’t intend to replace human creators and are not associated with the “South Park” creators. They confirm that AI imitations are only for demos and won’t generate “South Park” content. Their main goal is to use AI as a collaborative tool to help users craft original animated stories with their characters and images. The focus is on creating full AI personas and worlds.

The debut of Showrunner AI coincides with Hollywood writer and actor strikes, which are geared in part at limiting producers’ ability to use AI engines for content development. Fable Studio’s Edward Saatchi supports the necessity for contracts to regulate AI’s powers while still pushing the bounds of AI-driven storytelling.
