On Tuesday, Google announced at its annual developer conference that its Android for Cars app library will be extended to the Android Automotive operating system.

While this makes it easier for developers to bring their various apps directly to the user’s screen, it also helps them develop an app that is not only compatible with Android OS and Android Auto but can also work with different vehicle models.

Unlike Android Auto, an app that runs on a user’s mobile phone and communicates wirelessly with a vehicle’s infotainment system, Android Automotive is modeled after its open-source mobile operating system, which runs on Linux.

The system is also modified by Google so that it can be used by automakers in their cars.
