Groups Call On Biden To Fill FCC Seat

The American Civil Liberties Union, Electronic Frontier Foundation, Writers Guild of America West, and 50 other groups have called on U.S. President Joe Biden to act quickly and fill the open seat on the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to begin the process of reintroducing net neutrality rules.

While lawmakers have urged Biden to pick either Jessica Rosenworcel, who Biden selected as acting FCC chairman in January or other suitable candidates, the position remains vacant because Biden has not yet nominated a candidate for the fifth U.S. telecommunications regulator seat.

Recall that while former President Barack Obama introduced net neutrality in 2015, which prohibited Internet service providers from blocking or throttling traffic or offering paid fast lanes, the FCC under Donald Trump lifted protections in 2017.
