Hackers Steal $655k After Picking MetaMask Seed From iCloud Backup

MetaMask has warned Apple iOS users not to store the seeds of cryptocurrency wallets in Apple’s iCloud when the app data backup is active.

A seed is a secret recovery phrase that consists of 12 words that protect access to the contents of your wallet.

Storing the wallet seed in iCloud means a user’s digital assets are at risk once their Apple account is compromised.

To prevent access to digital assets once an Apple account is compromised, users are advised to exclude MetaMask from iCloud backups by going to Settings > Profile > iCloud > Manage Storage > Backups.

Users should not reveal their two-factor authentication code to anyone as officials would never ask for it.

It is equally important that crypto users keep their assets securely in a cold wallet if they are not actively trading them instead of the MetaMask hot wallet.

The warning from MetaMask came after a MetaMask user lost more than $650k to hackers in a phishing attack.
