Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) adds a new open source program, Pwned Passwords, which provides space for easy data flow in HIBP.

It had previously been revealed that HIBP is now receiving compromised passwords discovered during an FBI investigation.

While FBI passwords are provided in hash pairs, HIBP does not require them in plain text, but the FBI passwords are delivered to the system as an open source program once they are provided by the Bureau.

With nearly one billion requests per month coming from people who review the free HIBP sites, Bryan A. Vorndran, Deputy Director of the FBI’s Cyber Division, said, “We are excited to be partnering with HIBP on this important project to protect victims of online credential theft. It is another example of how important public/private partnerships are in the fight against cybercrime.”
