M1X MacBook Pro Will Finally Be Available In November

The long-awaited new MacBook Pro models with Apple-designed silicon will finally be available in November, said reporter Mark Gurman.

This update will be an important one, as it will switch the 16-inch MacBook Pro to Apple’s bespoke silicon with a new and improved cousin of the M1, which hit the 13-inch model and other Macs just last year.

Reports have called the new chip M1X, others have called it M2. It is expected that the new device will have eight high-performance CPU cores and two high-efficiency CPU cores. It is also expected to come in two versions, one with a 16-core GPU and the other with 32 GPU cores.

In addition, the M1 features four high-performance CPU cores and four efficiency CPU cores, which are available in seven- or eight-core configurations.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro was updated with Apple’s M1 in 2020, but despite the strong performance of the chip, Apple treats the M1 as a low-end version. The faster version of the above is intended for the 16-inch MacBook Pro, plus a new 14-inch MacBook Pro to replace the 13-inch model at the top and potentially a brand-new replacement for the 27-inch iMac.
